They lead to energy loss, slower regeneration, and increased susceptibility to disease. Nutrient analyses can help to identify these dysfunctions at an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">early stage<\/span> and treat them in a targeted manner.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bae4a6a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bae4a6a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Through detailed blood analysis of nutrients and individual therapy with micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals, trace elements, omega-3 fatty acids, etc.), athletes can improve their performance and recovery. A balanced nutrient balance supports the cell powerhouses (also called mitochondria), which leads to <strong>more energy and better physical performance<\/strong>. Competitive athletes often need four times the amount of micro-nutrients.<\/p><p>Nutrient robbers are common <strong>medications<\/strong> such as statins (blood lipid-lowering drugs) that cause a deficiency of coenzyme Q10 and thus weaken (heart) muscles. This deficiency can trigger the heart attack that statins are supposed to prevent. The <strong>contraceptive pill<\/strong> can cause a deficiency in vitamins C, E, B6, B12, and folic acid, as well as magnesium, zinc, and selenium, which in turn can lead to fatigue and mood swings. Tablets for <strong>stomach acid<\/strong> and heartburn can lead to a loss of vitamin B12, magnesium, and calcium, which can cause muscle cramps, anemia, and osteoporosis. Heart and liver cells are the front-runners with up to <strong>10,000 mitochondria per cell<\/strong>, as these are the organs that have to work particularly hard!<\/p><\/li><li><p>Specific blood analyses provide important reference values on the functionality of the mitochondria and give us information about the <strong>individual situation<\/strong> of oxidative or nitrosative stress in the mitochondria (oxidative = caused by oxygen radicals, or nitrosative = caused by increased nitric oxide NO formation)<\/p><\/li><li>In order to adequately metabolize acidic metabolites (e.g., lactate) produced during cellular metabolism, the enzymes responsible require B-complex vitamins such as niacin, riboflavin, biotin, and pantothenic acid as cofactors. However, these are increasingly consumed by <strong>stress, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, toxins, and pharmaceuticals<\/strong>, which can lead to a deficiency. Gr\u00f6ber (2007) and Fuchs (2020) include alcohol, analgesics, PPIs, antiepileptics, ACE inhibitors, corticosteroids, diuretics, statins, SSRIs, and oral contraceptives (birth control pills) among the latter.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c626f36 elementor-hidden-desktop elementor-hidden-tablet elementor-hidden-mobile elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c626f36\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><p><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\"><strong>Add oxidative stress<\/strong>: This mainly involves the super-oxide radical O2-, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and the hydroxyl radical OH. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">One consequence of oxidative stress is lipid peroxidation, which ultimately leads to cells having to expend more energy to stabilize their membrane potential. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">Further consequences are protein oxidation and DNA damage. <\/span><span class=\"--l sentence_highlight\">These processes have a major <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">influence on the <strong>ageing process and life expectancy<\/strong>. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">The attack of free radicals on unsaturated fatty acids contributes to the formation of arteriosclerosis. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">It is assumed that oxidative stress is involved in the development of cancer, diseases of the immune system as well as rheumatic and neuro-degenerative diseases.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\"><strong>Add nitrosative stress<\/strong>: The effects of increased NO formation extend to a large number of organ functions, corresponding to the extensive physiological functions. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">High levels of <strong>NO inhibit enzymes of the mitochondrial respiratory chain<\/strong>. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">The resulting loss of ATP primarily affects cells with high energy requirements and leads to an increase in the activity of the glutamate receptor. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">The neurotransmitter glutamate then opens the receptor channel to a greater extent, resulting in an influx of calcium ions. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">Under nitrosative stress, this mechanism is intensified and can lead to a permanent loss of function and death of the nerve cells.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\"><strong>Add Energy metabolism<\/strong>: The body&#8217;s energy metabolism ensures the uninterrupted supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the universal energy currency in the organism. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">Every cell can generate energy directly by splitting this molecule. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">However, the high-energy molecule cannot be stored for long. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">In theory, it would be completely used up after just a few moments. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">After ATP is broken down, ADP and phosphate are produced as degradation products. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">In the mitochondria, the power plants of our cells, ADP is phosphorylated back to ATP. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">Although the cells cannot store ATP, they can re-synthesize it extremely quickly. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">In this way, the continuous formation of new ATP is guaranteed. <\/span><span class=\"--l --r sentence_highlight\">One of the prerequisites for this is a <strong>regular supply of micro-nutrients<\/strong>, as ATP is only produced in the course of various metabolic processes.<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c90b97d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c90b97d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1 Johannsen DL, Ravussin E (2009) The role of mitochondria in health and disease.
